Via La Times seniors were apparently pretty pissed on Turkey day:
Although the sign-up period for the new Medicare prescription drug benefit is barely two weeks old, pressure is mounting in Congress to extend it so that senior citizens can have more time to understand a program many find dauntingly complex.Healthy Policyites won't be the least bit surprised by this news. If you're new to the site and want to know more info on Medicare Part D (I like to call it Medi-Mess) head over to the Medicare category. The registration period is scheduled to end May 15. But lawmakers who have been in their home districts during the Thanksgiving holiday have reported being besieged by elderly constituents.
There was an infuriating letter recently in our local paper - a rightfully pissed consumer complained about the complications of Medicare D. Problem was that he layed it all on the steps of the government. He blamed it on public sector bureaucrats. Truth is that the private sector gamed the system to get this bill passed in its current form, and private companies are now gaming the system to milk the program for all they can. This bill echos the chorus of those who want to see the public sector take over health care.
